Upcycling of textiles

Textile is like a second skin—it protects us and provides warmth and comfort. It is soft, cuddly, and smooth and can be dazzling or subtle. Textile expresses how we feel. It makes us shine, while it can also comfort us and offer us a sense of security.

Textile is always linked to a story, a personal story about the why, the how, and the what: why we bought it, made it, or acquired it; how we wore or used it; what it means to us and what memories it brings back. It is a story that may connect us with family and friends.

When sorting through our own or another’s textiles, we might feel neutral toward one piece, while another might contain many feelings and memories. By upcycling textiles, I create a beautiful new object.

There are a variety of possibilities, from artwork to functional pieces:

– 'Textile paintings' – abstract compositions for the wall.

– Decorative throws, warm blankets, or decorative cloths and pillows.

– Comfort scarves, shawls, and necklaces.
